Home Medical Equipment Drives (HME)
Dignity in Motion, Safety at Home
Our Home Medical Equipment Drives provide essential items like wheelchairs, walkers, hospital beds, and safety supports so that seniors and individuals with disabilities can live safely, independently, and with dignity. Each piece of equipment represents not just mobility, but freedom, confidence, and peace of mind.
Adults with disabilities
Barriers to access: A 2022 Urban Institute study found that 15% of adults with disabilities reported delaying or not getting needed medical equipment or supplies. The most cited reasons were related to insurance difficulties, including lack of coverage, authorization issues, and high costs.
Highest need among specific groups: Unmet needs for medical equipment were most common among adults with difficulties related to ambulation, self-care, and independent living.
Common unmet needs: Mobility equipment, respiratory equipment, and equipment for managing conditions like diabetes were among the most frequently reported items that were delayed or not received.
Requests
Families can request equipment through our simple intake process. Equipment is provided on a first-come, first-served basis as available.
Supplies & Equipment Donation
We offer a “Pick Me Up/Drop Me Off” service to deliver/collect gently used equipment from households and re-distribute it to neighbors in need.
“When my mom needed a wheelchair, Community of Neighbors stepped in right away.
It gave her freedom again — and gave our family peace of mind.”
